i tried to use a few dummy images (just some random screen caps) i added 2 then saved it then tried to add the third in, it goes over and overrights the other 2 images, if you were trying to make a folder and have it updated and keep all your pictures of whatever, it deletes the old and puts in the other ones. also when i added in the 2 it was unclear of how to change between pictures.
overall i didnt like the product as truecrypt is encrypted and you can add and delete from the encrypted folder and view all pictures. It overall felt plain but not in a good way it was hard to understand how to do anything. Already uninstalled however GAOTD is always hit and miss and this was definitly a miss
10 thumbs down :(

Installation is smooth on WinXP SP3.
I believe what this program does is create an hidden subdirectory and put your files there. THAT'S IT!
The user interface is difficult to use and since there are no documentation, it took me several minutes to figure out what the program is for, what I am suppose to do and how to do it. I tried adding an image folder with 8 photos in it but EA only shows the 1st one. So basically, I think you can only add files to it one at a time. Further, because your save location is hidden, you must remember the name because you will not be able to select it in the "open file" box.
Since EA lacks file explorer functions, navigating through your saved data is a pain at best. You have to constantly use the "open data" command to access the saved data menu, then click on the items one at a time to open it. The are no thumbnail view, no list, no nothing! Looking for a file is literally a needle in a hay stack (a VERY large hay stack).
The concept itself is good, but the implementation is plain stupid.

Egoist Assistant is not officially supported on Vista and I am running it on a Vista machine. So some of the problems that I mention may only be on Vista. XP users feel free to chime in if you do/don't experience the same issues.
The Good
* Nice tricky appearance.
* You can "hide" and "encrypt" your videos, images and text/document files.
* Plays videos in-house.
* Allows you to view your images in-house.
* Opens document files in-house.
The Bad
* Changing program name does not work.
* .DOC, .XLS, .PDF files are not run within the program.
* Little to no controls to go from image to image when viewing an image album.
* No "Help" section.
* No information on what type of "encryption" is done.
* The actual "data files" containers aren't really hidden at all.
* You are limited to only "hiding" video, image, or document/text files.
* Does not work with .DOCX or .XLSX.
* Does not work with PowerPoint files.
* Does not work with SWF or FLV videos.

Without having a reg code, I'd never want to use it to hide anything important! If you lose this product due to reformat or whatever, you lose all you hid with it forever! And it doesn't sound like encrypts anything. Also, if you still HAVE this program in pc, I hope it has a password, or anyone can use the program & find what u hid. I did download it, but decided not to install due to the above. Some things ya just need the reg code for. Thanks anyway to the makers & GOTD! :)

This isn't serious security software, it's more of a hide-from-your-boss application. For those who don't understand what this is or how to use it, go to the product website, which is linked at the top of every giveaway page.
While not Vista-compliant, this will install and run on Vista. It has a lengthy EULA which was written by a lawyer (or copied), but my impression of the program's concept and coding is that it's written by a beginner. While I like the concept better than a rootkit-type hider, this is cumbersome and buggy. It "hides" documents, images, and videos by storing them in a common location with other names, and attempting to make itself look like a harmless application. Exactly what file formats are supported is unclear, as it will attempt to hide more formats than it can actually display. The inability to hide arbitrary formats is a major minus. It overwrites previously-used names without prompting. Presumably, you would want to use a nondescript name, but the original name is lost, making it hard to know what you've got. There can be all sorts of problems attempting to open formats which it can save. If an open fails, you may have to restart Egoist Assistant to delete the file. For those who can't figure out how this displays files, they're in MDI child windows, the UI is active and allows the usual MDI manipulations.
There's no real security here; no description of the encryption algorithm used (which I didn't test), almost certainly no secure-delete of the original.
As for yesterday's Video Encoder offering, ffdshow is horrible, I'll probably try to uninstall it.
A couple of FYI items. There were a lot of comments yesterday from people wanting to downgrade from IE8 to IE7. I don't know why anyone would want to do that, IE8 is much better. UnMHT for Firefox continues to improve; lack of MHTML support used to be a major reason why I didn't use Firefox as my primary browser (IE8 generally loads pages faster on my PC). Windows Update provided an optional installation of various Windows Live programs (a free account will suffice for at least basic stuff), which you can also download from the Windows Live website. Skip the Windows Live Movie Maker beta, which is fortunately unchecked by default, as it's basically just a very limited new-UI preview. While lots of toolbars have had the ability to use web-stored favorites/bookmarks, the Windows Live toolbar will sync IE Favorites, presumably similar to tools for other browsers (but I hate having another toolbar, and I think the Windows Live toolbar is lame compared to Google's). Speaking of which, Microsoft has never fixed the URL and MHTML iFilters, nor has it fixed the problem of failing to mark files saved from a Protected Mode tab for Indexing. But it wouldn't be like anyone at Microsoft to actually use their own products.
