For those that don't understand what this program does - it's pretty cool, albeit not for everyone.
Basically in a situation where you don't have a writable CD/DVD handy, or don't want to burn a disc because you don't want to spend the money, or perhaps you don't have a Blu-Ray burner but you have a Blue-Ray image file and wish to watch a Blu-Ray disc...many instances, you can use Daemon Tools.
Say the image for burning a disc would be 14GB. Using Daemon Tools, you would "fake out" Windows into believing it has a Blu-Ray burner, but really it would create, say, a "G:" drive on your PC, that Windows would see...but truth be told the drive is only virtual, and you can burn the 14GB image onto a "virtual" Blu-Ray disc...and you could even click on this drive as if it were a disc in the drive and watch the movie.
There are obviously many other uses, but that's kind of the basis of how this program works.

DAEMON Tools Pro
Well let me say I have had some problems in the past with this and Alcohol 120% both programs basically emulate a virtual optical drive and allow the user to create images of cd/dvd etc... that said there are a number of issues and problems with these programs. Lets address the most common issue first:
1. Both programs implement the use of SPTD (SCSI Pass Through Direct) a driver which has been known to cause BSOD and on some optical drives cause substantial problems with burn speeds. (some have reported a loss of speed from 16x down to 8x and others could only burn nonfunctional disk "coasters" altogether)
2. Incompatible with a numerous amount of common anti-virus and security related programs. To run the program you will have to disable or uninstall the following; Windows Defender, Kaspersky, NOD32, Symantic Endpoint Protection, SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor, FSecure, PCTools Threatfire, Zonealarm and others that include a type of behavior shield or system file protection.
3. This install will also have issues with some games with starforce protection, RAID arrays, Gigabyte GEST software, All versions of Vista had problems in the past, any hardware change to the computer requires you to disable or uninstall daemon tools and this is the support page you might want to read before installing the software http://forum.daemon-tools.cc/f26/ (pay attention to the 311,000 views on how to uninstall) btw requires a forced restart to install or uninstall
This program works fine for some users but, given this information, understanding you might have to reformat your computer and lose everything on it, is it worth it to you?
I personally like my setup as is and I have $40 to buy an external dvdrw drive for the option of another drive. I will never disable my security software or uninstall it for any program especially if I have a paid license for it. I won't sacrifice my drive speeds down to half or make the burn function useless.
If you want to risk it all for the ability to have "virtual optical drive" Don't say you weren't warned.

Used the free version for a while. Solid, useful.
Mainstay for those who share game torrents and whatnot (which I do NOT do) as many games require the original DVD, and this fools the system into thinking its present.
As I recall Daemon includes a few hidden files that some rootkit blockers object to.
This is legit, it needs those files to be hidden to fool the system that it is a physical drive. There have been extensive write-upos on it elsewhere.
Thanks GAOTD
