@6 - "Why would anyone come here of they were looking for freeware?" Believe it or not, some people chance upon Giveawayoftheday after the giveaway period has expired and a good freeware alternative should be seen as a service to the wider community. On many occasions the freeware is better - for example, I can recommend Wavepad or Free Audio Editor

I don't usually download software till hearing at least some of the community's response to it.
If there is a freeware alternative, I certainly want to know how it compares to the Giveaway.
Also, this way the developer has a chance to explain how their offering is superior.
[Imagine: If Photoshop were to be given away here and someone mentioned the GIMP, Adobe would finally have a place to lay the ridiculous comparisons to rest.]
Case in point: Last time this was offered, someone mentioned Wavosaur - http://www.wavosaur.com - which has become a staple program for me [I don't need the power of today's giveaway, and Wavosaur is tiny, has no install, and opens in under a second on my old laptop. It also supports VST, which this (in the last version) did not]
It was this wonderful community that informed me of Wavosaur, and the same community that let me know that if I want a 'real' program [with an installer and lots of options] that I shouldn't rely on the freeware.
Its a wonderful community and should be encouraged, not criticized.

The Good
* Cut, copy, paste, save selection as, effects, etc. - has features that one expects to be in a sound editor.
* You can record sound directly from the program.
* Supports multiple input formats.
The Bad
* Bugs, bugs and bugs (not the bunny).
* Help section is useless.
* When loading a file, there is no "View All Supported Files" options.
Free Alternatives
Audacity
Wavosaur
Wavepad (Thx bill)
Free Audio Editor (thx bill)
Verdict
Simple verdict: thumbs down for Audio Recorder. Too many problems; not worth the download. What program really impressed me today was WavePad. Feature filled, supports lots of input/output and - best of all - batch processing. After WavePad I say check out Free Audio editor, which is another program that I found to be pretty nice. If all else fails, fall back to trusty old Audacity.
