PROS:

* Smooth download, installation, activation on Vista x64 OS. Remember to run "activate.exe" file before you launch/open/access program.

* Supports 6 setup languages: English, French, German, Italian, Portugese (standard), Spanish.

* Provides comprehensive Local Help Guidance, with complete tech support contact information. Also, has online Help Resources.

* Has Features: List of Record Profiles, Record Wizard, QuickStart Wizard, Hide & Lock (i.e., Stealth Mode), Backup, Restore, Detect Hardware & Create Profiles.

* Has 6 GUI Themes: Blue, Silver, Olive, Purple, Vista, Dark.

* Provides View Settings for: Global Options (numerous selections), Detach Capture, Log Window.

* Allows User to Designate: Record Source settings, Record Task Wizard settings, Record/Broadcast/Capture profiles (numerous options).

* I easily and quickly captured/recorded my desktop screen and saved it as both Avi and WMV format. Quality of screen capture is good.

CONS:

* Price is way too high compared with freeware alternatives that are equally rich and capable.

Summary - program is feature-rich & it creates good-quality output. Thanks, GOTD and PCWinSoft.

Don't do update. Takes pgm back to trial state and you have to uninstall and reinstall. I had to run setup twice after uninstalling the update as everything upon reinstalling was listed as "default." After running setup again, all was OK.

Answer to 11.
Among your audio lines on XP, or audio devices on Vista/7, you should find one called 'Record Master', or 'Stereo Mix', or 'What U Hear', so if you configure 1AVCapture to record from that line/device then you will be able to record YouTube music. I do that everyday and then throw it all on my MP4. Also, when recordgin music remember to mute the microphone line/device before starting the recordings, and also make sure to test your first pieces of recording to see if your volume levels are OK and if the quality is what you need.
Another good measure to take before recording audio is to turn off the Windows sounds: Control Panel > Sounds > Sounds > Then select the 'No Sounds' scheme.

At the time I post this, 26 comments have cleared moderation, and except for Alex Ferri, most of them are useless. This is excellent software, easily one of the best giveaways in the last year. There has been a lot of completely unwarranted sniping. PCWinSoft's flagship product is 1AVCenter, the other products are stripped-down versions. 1AVCenter does have five stars on Tucows. 1AVCapture's help file does have some references to 1AVCenter features which 1AVCapture doesn't have. Even so, 1AVCapture has an outstanding feature set, too many for me to list briefly. A word about the install. Apparently, it's necessary to set 1AVCapture to Run as an Administrator on Vista and higher. It modifies Win.ini, and some audio sources didn't work until I ran it as an administrator (unless that was due to something else). As usual, if you've run it not as an administrator, various VirtualStore entries will have been generated which may need to be deleted.

This is very useful software; except for the installation issue and the Help file, I only noticed a couple of problems. It won't record off of my secondary monitor, and it allows resolution selection for video but not snapshots. You can select any video source or the desktop, and any audio source. You can capture the screen or a window. You have complete control over frame rate, codecs used, bit rates, etc. You can control how much disk space it uses. It can capture locally or stream over a network or the Internet. For monitoring, you can have it stream while running in stealth mode. It can email captures, upload via FTP, etc. It has lots of presets for various devices and activities. Overall, I'm very impressed with this offering.

#5, HappyPerson, CamStudio can annotate, which this can't, but CamStudio doesn't have many of the other features. Also, you have to go to the CamStudio website to get some updates. Like many open-source projects, it's a mess, buggy, and years go by between releases. The beta is years old, developers are working on version 3 (you have to compile that yourself).
